Bombshell report claims Des has lost Titans dressing room, is one game away from possible sack

Des Hasler has reportedly lost the Titans locker room as a clause in his contract threatens to end his time as Gold Coast’s coach as early as next week.

In a bombshell report from Code Sports, Titans players are said to be unhappy with Hasler’s approach and coaching style, with concerns ranging from tough training methods to confusing messaging around selection decisions.

In one example, a Titans player found out he was making his NRL debut when he read the team lists online before being told by Hasler or anyone on the Gold Coast coaching staff.

There were high expectations for the club entering year two of the Hasler reign, but despite having a number of representative stars littered across the park, the club is languishing in last place.

A clause in Hasler’s contract gives the Titans the ability to sack the coach immediately when they are mathematically eliminated from the finals race, which will be the case if the club loses to Brisbane on Sunday night.

The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis revealed two days ago that Hasler will retire at season’s end but there’s a chance the Titans cut Hasler loose before then given the clause in the coach’s deal.

Veteran journalist Phil Rothfield called the Hasler era a “disaster”.

“I thought they (Titans) would (go much better this season) but he had tumultuous exits at the Sea Eagles and Bulldogs, both of which finished up in court,” Rothfield said on NRL360.

“I don’t think he wants to end his career like that. I think he’ll gracefully step down at the end of the year.

“It has been a disaster this year. I thought they had a top eight roster to be honest with you.”

The Titans finished 14th in Hasler’s first season at the helm (2024).

Since Hasler arrived on the Gold Coast, the Titans have won a paltry 12 from 39 games.
