‘We know what’s going on and the people behind it’: Manly legend named in Seibold axing plot

A group of powerful Sea Eagles ex-players are reportedly leading a push for Anthony Seibold to be ousted from his post at the season’s end.

That is according to the WWOS, who are reporting Manly powerbrokers are aware of the push after publicly backing Seibold as the man to lead the club forward.

Following a board meeting last week, Sea Eagles owner Scott Penn made it clear to Code Sports the club are supporting Seibold, who has two years to run on his current deal.

“We had a board meeting this week and we understand some of the pressure we have had on our forward pack with the injuries,” Penn said.

“There are a few people in the background trying to create a bit of drama. People see an opportunity to throw a few grenades.”

Anthony Watmough is the is reportedly leading the charge to have Seibold sacked, with his former manager George Mimis also on side.

The group of Sea Eagles old boys reportedly want Matt Ballin to take ove, having spent time as an assistant at Manly, the Broncos and for Queensland.

“We know what’s going on and the people behind it,” a source reportedly told WWOS.

Seibold is currently in his third season at the helm of the Sea Eagles and his side are in a tight battle to slot into the top eight.

The Roosters and Dolphins have the edge over Manly for the final finals spot, however the Sea Eagles remain a mathematical chance of edging them out.

Meanwhile, Penn was also quizzed whether Michael Ennis could take over from Seibold in the future, with a succession plan reportedly being organised.

“That’s something we have talked about previously,” Penn said.

“We’re still working it through. There is certainly no immediate pressure.”
